Sarah McCarthy, AVCM, BA Hon (Mus), MA (Mus), MA (Ed)

Bio: Sarah McCarthy, AVCM, BA Hon (Mus), MA (Mus), MA (Education) is a doctor of arts candidate at Victoria College, London. Sarah’s research focuses on the potential benefits of group singing during the perinatal period.

Sarah is a musician, teacher and group singing facilitator based in Cork, Ireland. In 2003 Sarah received an associate diploma in piano performance from the Victoria College of Music, London. In 2007 she graduated with an honours degree in music from Waterford Institute of Technology and two years later received an MA in Music with a research focus on composition. In 2013 Sarah received an MA in Education from Waterford Institute of Technology with a research focus in early years music education.

Sarah began teaching piano as an undergraduate student and taught privately until 2023. Sarah has been facilitating participatory group music making for many years with an emphasis on group singing. She has worked in schools, community settings, independent studios, preschools, childcare settings, charity trusts and healing arts facilities. She has also facilitated group singing classes for mothers, their young babies and children for many years.
