Lili Shi is an Assistant Professor of communication studies at City University of New York’s Kingsborough Community College. Dr. Shi specializes in postcolonial race and gender politics in global transnationalism. Using a critical, interpretive approach, she researches on lived experiences of Chinese diasporic gender identities and motherhood in New York City. This article is part of her current book project on Chinese diasporic gender identities during transnational maternity in Brooklyn’s new Chinatown, 8th Avenue.
